- The purpose of the college and career readiness standards is to make sure students are ready for college and their career. It helps teachers keep focus on what they are trying to accomplish in their students.
2. What are the benefits and challenges of the shift to reading and writing non-fiction texts?
- Students need to read informational text because informational text are so commonly read in college and in our careers. Informational text should be read in all subjects. Reading informational text can help students become better writers. Also, writing should not be focused on writing a paragraph about ourselves, but to write arguements and summaries about informational text we've read.
3. What are the benefits and challenges of having standards for Science, Social Studies and technical subjects?
- Students will be forced to work harder in these subjects.
I do not totally agree with the CCSS. I think if it was implemented in Kindergarten in 2014, then 1st grade in 2015, etc. the standards will be a good thing. I think that implementing them all at once is going to leave too many students behind and too many students are going to want to give up rather than try harder. I agree with you that writing should be more about arguing and summarizing rather than biographies. I do believe that argumentative writing is more beneficial than summaries, but both will bring success in writing for the student's future.
ReplyDeleteI agree that informational text is important to use in education. Not only will it increase students reading and reading comprehension skills, but It also will actually teach the student information. I agree also in preparing the students more for higher level education, I just feel there are better ways to administer the new ideas.
